3 Comments 26 April 2012

Question by …: What are some good ways to increase muscle and strength in the upper body?
I’m a 13 year old girl, and I’m very active. But most of my strongest muscles are my leg muscles. I just need to increase my strength and muscle in my upper body including, abbs, byceps, triceps. and my wrist muscles for tennis. How do I do this? My dad is going to ask Gold’s Gym if I am old enough to go to the gym, but what are other ways?

New Kettlebell Workout Book ‘The Swing’ Combines Strength, Flexibility, and Cardio for Radically Transformative Results

The Swing!: Lose the Fat and Get Fit with This Revolutionary Kettlebell by Tracy Reifkind

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 15, 2012

In his blockbuster New York Times bestseller, The 4-Hour Body, Timothy Ferriss asked the question: what are the tiniest changes that will produce the biggest results. When he examined how one could lose 100 pounds the fastest, he interviewed Tracy Reifkind. In the foreword to THE SWING! Lose the Fat and Get Fit with This Revolutionary Kettlebell Program (HarperOne; March 2012; Hardcover), he writes: “Whether you’re trying to lose the last few extra pounds or taking on a bigger challenge, just as Tracy did, The Swing! will make the kettlebell your new best friend and chief ally. Give it just eight weeks and you won’t recognize yourself.”

At the age of 41, weighing 250 lbs., having tried every diet and workout regimen, and experiencing an ever-growing array of health problems as result of being overweight for her entire life, Tracy Reifkind turned to the kettlebell swing, and lost 120 pounds. In the six years since losing the weight, radically transforming her body and wardrobe from a size 24 to a size 6, and toning muscles she previously didn’t know she had, today Tracy Reifkind is a certified Russian kettlebell instructor, in excellent physical health, and in THE SWING! eagerly shares her body and life–altering workout with anyone looking to lose weight and get into shape. “I think about the miracle of the kettlebell each time I see my reflection in the mirror,” she writes.

The kettlebell swing boasts numerous advantages over other fitness regimens, including:

    It’s two workouts in one – at once aerobic and anaerobic, the swing is simultaneously cardio and strength training, unparalleled for conditioning and fat loss;
    It feels natural – the specific movement and rhythm of the swing is a primal motion not evoked in any other exercise, making it easy to pick up and fun to do;
    It’s not a dumbbell – while some use kettlebells as they would dumbbells, the swing cannot be done with a dumbbell, giving it a unique advantage over every other form of weight resistance exercise;
    Boredom isn’t possible—the workouts are concentrated, the routines are varied, and the endless possibilities for combination moves yield fast results!

THE SWING! is divided into three main sections:

    MIND: how to get in ‘the readiness zone’ for the best possible results
    BODY: Learn, Practice, Train (LPT) and start swinging your way to results!
    FOOD: learn how to feed yourself with nourishment with a weight-loss food plan and recipes for those who love to eat.

The rewards of THE SWING!, it’s fat and calories burning, lean muscle building workouts and rapid results are motivation in themselves with the goal of permanent weight-loss and the strongest, healthiest body and mind ever.

Which protein shake is best for building muscle strength?

2 Comments 20 December 2011

Question by hallo: Which protein shake is best for building muscle strength?
See here’s the deal i play rugby but every body i play with is a lot bigger and stronger than me so WITHOUT building too much muscle mass i want to build quiet a lot of strength.
But if i have to build on size i will do so.
Also some work out tips to build strength would be great

I’m 15, 60-65kg (9.5 stone), 5 foot 5inches.
I play scrum half and fullback

While protein is important for an athlete (and everyone else), too much of it can give you the opposite of what you want.
So protein shakes are not needed.

Just get a good diet (60% carbs, not protein.), with lots of fiber, vegetables, and fruit. Make sure that your meat intake doesn’t exceed your needs (which is about the size a deck of cards per meal). And workout more. Nothing can replace that.

Athletes who consume too much protein have lower energy levels; they feel tired lot. On the other hand, if you eat a good diet, you’ll have MORE energy to work out.

I’m not saying that protein shakes are forbidden. I’m just warning you that you definitely don’t want to depend on them. Now, a protein shake or bar here and there could be great, don’t get me wrong. It’s all about the amount. :)

(Hopefully I didn’t go too off topic and answered one of your questions? Lol.)
